At the end of the rally in Belgrade, those gathered "almost broke through to the entrance of the National Assembly," Beta reported, adding that the demonstrators were stopped by a cordon of about 30 police officers in riot gear.

Tanjug reported that the participants think the elections were irregular, while some said they intend to "call on the president of Serbia to undertake measures to save the state."

About 1,000 students and citizens gathered in Kragujevac, while about 100 participated in Leskovac. Several hundred mostly young people rallied in Bor, news agencies reported.

Protests were held on Monday in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Nis. Serbian PM and president-elect Aleksandar Vucic reacted by saying that "everyone has the right to express their opinion" and that this form of expressing it was "okay as long as it's peaceful."

The protests' organizers are still unknown; nobody officially addressed the gatherings on Monday.
