National Assembly president schedules local elections

Beta reported that local elections will not be held in Belgrade, Zajecar, Arandjelovac, Bor, Vrbas, Kovin, Kosjeric, Lucani, Majdanpek, Medvedja, Mionica, Negotin, Odzaci and Pecinci.

Maja Gojkovic "appealed to the citizens to go to the polls, and cast their ballot to shape the future of Serbia, their families, children and grandchildren" and "wished all the election actors a fair and honest campaign," the agency said.

Although there will be no voting at the city level in Belgrade, elections have been called and scheduled for April 24 in the capital's 17 municipalities.

After signing a decision to call the elections, Belgrade City Assembly President Nikola Nikodijevic told reporters that he expects elections to be fair and Belgraders to elect "authorities that are worthy of a European capital in the 21st century."

After seven years, citizens of all Belgrade municipalities will go to elections on the same day, which is good because all municipal authorities will be given four-year terms at the same time, Nikodijevic said.
