Farmers from Serbia's northern province of Vojvodina, headed to Belgrade in their tractors, have been stopped and turned back by the police.

Police preventing protesting farmers from reaching Belgrade
According to the Beta agency, they are being stopped on the roads leading to the capital today, while some have been unable to leave their municipalities.Miroslav Kis, who heads an association gathering farmers, and who was on Tuesday waiting to be joined by other protesters in Zednik before heading to Belgrade, said that the draft law should be withdrawn because it was so detrimental that it "forced agriculture workers to come up with the slogan, 'We won't give land to foreigners and tycoons'."
"We cannot allow 30 percent of the land we work to be given to somebody with lots of money, with no tender and clear criteria, with the excuse they will improve cattle farming and increase competition. On the contrary, this is just deception and we have stood against it from the beginning," Kis said, and added that "the police are now withholding the farmers' right to move in their tractors."
"Our goal is to reach Belgrade, but that's not the key - it's to start talking about this problem. No official has addressed us so far, instead disinformation is being spread," Kis said.
Democratic Party (DS) deputy in the Assembly of Vojvodina and farmer from Subotica Daniel Kovacic told the agency that some 30 tractors departed from that town in northern Serbia this morning, and that the police "stopped them twice already."
He added that the protesters were "considering the option of blocking the road" if the police prevent them from reaching Belgrade.
The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats has announced the same kind of protest for November 26, but the police said "the arrival of tractors" in Belgrade would disrupt the city's traffic.
