Serbia expresses "full solidarity" with Nigeria

"The Republic of Serbia expresses its full solidarity with the people of Nigeria, with whom it has a long-standing friendship and provides strong support to the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violence," the ministry said.

"The Republic of Serbia rejects with indignation terrorism as a method for achieving political, ethnical and religious goals or solving open issues," a statement reads.

"It is with great concern and sincere sorrow that we keep an eye on the escalation of violence and suffering of innocent civilians in the friendly Republic of Nigeria. Ahead of the upcoming elections in the Republic of Nigeria scheduled for February 2015, terrorists continue to kill hundreds of innocent citizens in incessant attacks on churches and mosques, schools and government institutions," the statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared readiness to offer, within the limits of its capabilities, all necessary assistance and support to the efforts of the Nigerian government in addressing the problem of terrorism.

There has been a surge in violence in Nigeria linked to terrorist group Boko Haram with several attacks recorded in the past few weeks, Tanjug reported.
