Lawyers and government reach "agreement in principle"

"We have reached an agreement on all the contested issues and I expect the next meeting will be the last," Jasmina Milutinovic of the Serbian Bar Association told the agency after a meeting held on Monday.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday when technical amendments to regulations, i.e. draft amendments and additions to the Law on Notaries Public and a set of other laws, should be agreed.

"We have the Justice Ministry's promise that amendments to the laws should very quickly find themselves on the agenda of an extraordinary session of the Serbian Parliament and their adoption is the condition for the protest to end," said Milutinovic.

Assistant Justice Minister Cedomir Backovic confirmed that amendments to the laws "should quickly, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, make it to parliament and underscored that the demands of the lawyers have been concluded with the agreement," Beta reported.

"The lawyers' demands have evolved, but there are no unacceptable demands. During the talks some issues were smoothed out and we have now managed to solve them together," Backovic told journalists.
