FM: Much is expected from Serbia
"What is important is the symbolic year - 40 years of the Helsinki Final Act, Yugoslavia was one of the founders of the then CSCE, that the first conference after Helsinki was held Belgrade," Dacic said."We have (made) many things in Serbia which seemed impossible - possible, during the two and a half years since the coalition in the changed composition has existed," he was quoted as saying.
According to Dacic, "for ten years there was only talk about the (European) Union," while now, "(membership) negotiations have started after all."
"Instead of a country where peace missions are sent to, we are now a country that presides over such an organization," he said, in reference to the OSCE.
The minister then observed that all governments spoke about the need for economic stabilization "ever since Milka Planinc" - a Yugoslav prime minister from the 1980s - , but that "no government in history has adopted such a brave budget, which is the basis for a healthy state, and there is no healthy state without a healthy economy."
"That's why I think that Serbia should next year show its seriousness - first, it is a big challenge, because everyone is expecting a lot from us," Dacic said, once again referring to the presidency of the OSCE.
A Ministerial Council meeting is scheduled for January 3 and 4, and will bring together 57 foreign affairs ministers.
"We will as soon as now create an organizational board, like for the summit with China - it will be a big multilateral gathering that will show that Serbia has changed its international position," Dacic said.
