DSS: New statute and law on Vojvodina's jurisdiction

The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has asked for a new statute and law on the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina to be adopted.

BELGRADE The opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has asked for a new statute and law on the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina to be adopted. This new legislation should be in line with Serbia's Constitution, DSS Vice President Slobodan Samardzic said. DSS: New statute and law on Vojvodina's jurisdiction The Constitutional Court has determined that 41 of the total of 70 provisions of Vojvodina's Statute violate the Constitution and law on Vojvodina's jurisdiction, he told Tanjug. A group of DSS and New Serbia members of the parliament asked for an opinion from the Constitutional Court and 18 months ago it cancelled 22 articles of the law on Vojvodina's jurisdiction. The DSS then asked the government to draft a new law and send it to the parliament for adoption, so a new statute of Vojvodina could be created, he pointed out. Unfortunately, the government has not done that, and there has been talk in the meantime that the Constitution rather than Vojvodina's statute should be changed, he said. The DSS believes the Constitution should be implemented, not changed, he stressed, calling on the government to follow the Constitution and prepare changes to the law on Vojvodina's jurisdiction and to the province's statute.
