BELGRADE Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic will pay a visit to the People's Republic of China from August 26-29. He will be a member of the state-economic delegation led by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday. FM Mrkic to accompany president on trip to China According to the ministry, Mrkic is due to confer with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on August 26. This is the first visit of Serbian top officials since the new leadership came into power in the People's Republic of China. Serbian-Chinese relations are characterized by traditional friendship, deep mutual understanding and support on the most important issues of national interest. This has also been confirmed by the strategic partnership between the two countries which was established in 2009, as the highest level of relations, the release reads, placing an emphasis on the fact that China is one of the pillars of the Serbian foreign policy. “The relations between Serbia and China are at the highest level up to this point. It goes without saying that the general tone is set by extraordinary close political relations, as if geography did not separate us at all,” Mrkic said ahead of his visit to the Chinese news agency Xinhua. “We are immensely grateful to China for support to our territorial integrity, and we are confident that our friendship will strengthen even further in the coming decades. We particularly rejoice at great success of the Chinese leadership and people in all fields of development. Serbia sincerely wishes all the best to China, as to a true friend,” Mrkic said.
