BELGRADE The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has started collecting signatures for the change of the Belgrade City Statute. They claim that the changes will enable decentralization of the city authorities. President of the SNS councilors’ group in the city assembly Aleksandar Jovicic has announced that the SNS top organs will soon decide on the change of the ruling majority in Belgrade. He asked citizens to be patient and added that the public would be informed about everything in due time. Jovicic stressed that the SNS’ priority was to secure a better life for the citizens of Belgrade and return authorities to municipalities that had been revoked in 2008. “Our goal is to speed up the legalization process and issuing of construction permits,” he noted. According to the SNS official, the Progressives want to fix the current situation in which the municipalities need to ask for the city’s consent even for the “most banal things”.
