President, Democrats wrap up meeting

Democratic Party (DS)-led coalition representatives and Serbia’s President Tomislav Nikolic wrapped up their meeting on Wednesday. The consultations which started around noon lasted only 15 minutes. President, Democrats wrap up meeting The participants of the meeting are expected to address reporters around 13:00 CET. “We are close to forming the parliamentary majority and I am convinced that we will do so in the next several days,” DS leader Boris Tadic said and added that topics of the talks were economic, national policy, the EU and the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He repeated that the DS-led coalition had talked to all parties aside from the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). “We have not had a break for a minute since the parliamentary elections, everybody is talking to everybody, the SNS is trying to secure its parliamentary majority, and the DS is making an effort to form a majority that will be in the interest of the people,” Tadic added. DS deputy leaders Dragan Djilas, Jelena Trivan, Dusan Petrovic and Bojan Pajtic and Social Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS) leader Rasim Ljajic also attended the meeting. The Democrats announced earlier that they were very close to reaching an agreement on the forming of the future government with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS)-Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS)-United Serbia (JS) coalition, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM). However, SPS leader Ivica Dacic has denied the information. DS official Dusan Elezovic told B92 that DS leader Boris Tadic would inform Nikolic that the DS, SPS and LDP could soon form the government. “DS leader Boris Tadic will inform President Nikolic that there are talks between the DS, SPS, LDP, SDA and SVM representatives on the forming of the parliamentary majority and Serbian citizens will be informed in the next several days when the agreement will be reached,” he said and added that the parties still had not discussed ministries but only program principles based on which the government should be formed.
