Most political parties in Serbia will be counting on the state budget, member donations and bank loans to fund their campaigns for the next election. But there are some who have not yet decided what source to use, say reports. Campaigns to be funded from budget, donations, loans The Transparency Serbia non-governmental organization believes the parties will mostly use the national budget to fund their campaigns, since the figure available is almost twice as much compared to previous years. The NGO's program director Nemanja Nenadic told Tanjug the national budget could be the most important source of funding for the parties. However, it should be expected that "those parties that have good chances and are expected to win parliament seats will be able to get significant support from donors," he added. Although some parties have stated they are going to take out loans to fund their campaigns, most expect the majority of the funds to come from the national budget, donations and member fees, judging by their officials' statements to Tanjug. The Democratic Party will probably finance the campaign out of member fees and the funds granted from the state budget, to which it is entitled as a party with seats in the parliament. A part of the money needed will be secured through donations from members and sympathizers. All of the Democratic Party's activities are in line with the law on political activity funding, the party's information service stated. They did not exclude the possibility of taking out a loan. The main source of funding for the Party of the United Pensioners of Serbia will be the country's budget, but donations and member fees are expected to cover some of the expenses. The Serbian Progressive Party will finance their campaign according to the law, which means from donations and member fees, their official Zorana Mihajlovic stated, adding they had no intention of taking out a loan for the moment. New Serbia is among the parties that will turn to banks for a loan, which will probably have to be repaid in three years. The Socialist Party of Serbia and the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians have not decided yet on how to fund their campaigns.
