Deputy PM Ivica Dacic has expressed hope that the Democratic Party (DS) and the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will reach a compromise on the election date. "I have not been in any meetings on the election date, but they will certainly be held early," said the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader, adding that the elections could be held in early December. Deputy PM hopes for compromise on election date "Looking at this from the outside, I can say that the position of the SNS is elections in December, while the position of the DS is elections after Serbia gets EU candidate status and a date for EU accession talks," he told reporters in Kragujevac, where he attended the signing of a cooperation protocol between the regional Kragujevac Chamber of Commerce and the Italian institute Ipalmo. He said that the European Commission would issue an opinion on Serbia's candidacy in October, after which 27 EU member countries would vote in early December.
