Newly elected Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Dejan Soskic said that he would together with the government work on transformation of the economy. The goal of this would be for Serbia to have an export-oriented economy which attracted direct foreign investments. New c. bank chief favors "export economy" “In this situation when Serbia must transform itself in the economic sense, communications between the government and the NBS must be fluent,” he stated after MPs on Wednesday voted to have him appointed the new NBS chief. The governor says that the level of cooperation between the NBS and the government "has not been bad so far", noting that they worked together on Serbia's stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Besides the work on transforming the economy, Soskic announced that he will work on the “de-eurozation”, in other words, on having the Serbian dinar (RSD) replace the euro (EUR) in loan and calculation transactions. “It’s something the NBS has been working on for some time and it will continue,” he stressed. The governor told the national broadcaster RTS that Serbians were getting their paychecks in dinars, while their loans were most often in euros, and that the exchange rate was then a problem as they needed to allocate more dinars for their loan installments.
