Chinese parliament delegation in Belgrade

A delegation of the Chinese National People's Congress Standing Committee headed by Chairman Wu Bangguo arrived in Belgrade on Wednesday.

A delegation of the Chinese National People's Congress Standing Committee headed by Chairman Wu Bangguo arrived in Belgrade on Wednesday. The Chinese officials werer welcomed by Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla International Airport. Chinese parliament delegation in Belgrade Chiefs of parliamentary groups, deputy speakers, members of the Serbia-China friendship group, the Serbian ambassador to Beijing and the Chinese amassador to Belgrade were also there to meet the delegation. Djukic-Dejanovic and Wu Bangguo will discuss ways to further parliamentary cooperation. Afterwards they are scheduled to meet with the Serbia-China parliamentary friendship group. Serbian Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic, Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic and Minister of Culture Neboja Bradic will sign several agreements with the Chinese officials during their visit. The Chinese delegation will also deliver a donation from their country's parliament to the Serbian National Assembly. Later in the day, Serbian President Boris Tadic and Wu Bangguo will lay the foundation stone for a bridge that will connect the Belgrade municipalities of Zemun and Borca, across the Danube. The bridge has been named the China-Serbia Friendship Bridge, with Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) building it. The agreement for the construction of the bridge, worth EUR 170mn, was signed in mid-April by National Investment Plan (NIP) Minister Verica Kalanovic, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas and the Vice Chairman of the Chinese company China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Lu Shan. The NIP is expected to provide 15 percent of the needed funds for the construction, and the rest will be provided by the Chinese Exim Bank, while the expropriation and technical preparations will be financed by the city of Belgrade. The deadline for paying back to the loan to Exim has been set at 15 years, which will start three years after the work has begun and there would be a fixed interest rate of three percent. The actual construction on the bridge is not due before April 2011, and the project is expected to be completed in three years.
