EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who is starting her visit to the Western Balkans, says she wished to talk about Serbia’s next steps toward the EU.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who is starting her visit to the Western Balkans, says she wished to talk about Serbia’s next steps toward the EU. Ashton said that “she wanted to talk about the next steps that Serbia wanted to take in order to make progress in the EU accession candidacy procedure,” her cabinet has announced EU's Ashton begins visit to region “The Western Balkans is the main priority of the EU foreign policy. The door to Europe is open for the entire region once the conditions for that are fulfilled,” the announcement adds. A detailed program of the visit has not been announced, but according to earlier announcements the EU foreign policy chief will visit Bosnia-Herzegovina tomorrow, Belgrade on Thursday and Pristina on Friday. Ashton took over as EU foreign policy chief from Javier Solana at the beginning of December of last year and she has officially been performing duties of EC first deputy president since last week.
