Kosovo: Municipal president released
7 November 2009 | 11:34 | Source: Beta, Tanjug
BELGRADE -- Gora Municipal President Alija Abdi has been released after giving a statement to police. Charges are expected to be pressed against him.

Regional Police Director in Prizren Lumni Graishta told the Beta news agency that Abdi was freed after giving a statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the threats against Goranis and Bosniaks in the municipality of Dragaš.

“The police had no intention of arresting Abdi, they wanted to ask him to give a statement on the threats against members of the community for losing their personal earnings and other privelages which they receive from Serbia if they participate in the November 15 elections. Abdi also said that the institutions that are organizing these elections are not legitimate to him,” Graishta said.

Graishta reiterated that Abdi was not arrested, rather that he was taken into custody for questioning by the police.

Graishta, however, said that charges will be filed against Abdi, because it is believed that he was responsible for the threats being made.

The prosecution will decided whether it will call for an investigation and then issue an indictment based on the findings, Graishta said.

The Gora municipality in Kosovo is under the authority of Belgrade.
