President Boris Tadic says Serbia's diplomatic battle for Kosovo counts the support of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) as important. At the same time, the organization's members represent a huge market that is a chance for Serbia's economy, he told state broadcaster RTS last night in Belgrade. Tadic: NAM important for Serbia "Some countries are being pressured to recognize the independence of the so-called state of Kosovo. We have acted preventively with arguments that a process before the International Court of Justice is ongoing and that those countries who are perhaps contemplating something of the kind must await the court's decision," Tadic stated. The president said that this argument was "well received" during the movement's recent summit in Egypt, which he attended. Serbia used this international forum to explain her position, and also as preparation for the meeting of the UN General Assembly in September, he explained. The president reminded that a large majority of NAM states did not recognize the Kosovo Albanian unilateral proclamation. During the world economic crisis, Tadic continued, everyone is looking for new markets. "There are many new market among the Non-Aligned. There's also plenty of opportunities among observers or those who were guests at this summit. China and Brazil were there… I offered the representatives of the former Yugoslav republics to consider creating a consortium on two economic fronts," said he, and explained that he had construction and military industries in mind. "I think there should be a join presentation of companies under state umbrella in the Non-Aligned countries' markets, and that would raise their chances of success. If we could form a consortium of regional construction companies, this would contribute to better regional cooperation and create jobs for Serbians." He also said that Serbia's offer to host the 50th NAM summit received "good response from everyone". Tadic stated that he asked other former Yugoslav countries to join in organizing the event.
