The DS and the SPS say they will sign the much publicized declaration on political reconciliation in the coming days. This document, as reported earlier, is the basis for common responsibility for Serbia's future, and for realizing the vision of Serbia as a democratic, cultural, economically developed and socially just state. DS, SPS: Declaration in coming days The opposition, however, claims that it is nothing more than a marketing stunt. Democratic Party (DS) and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leaders Boris Tadic and Ivica Dacic are due to sign the declaration. Tadic was first to comment on the move, explaining that in so doing, the DS and SPS would be setting an example for others who wanted to bring about stability for Serbia. Dacic stressed that the document was in fact an agreement for leaving behind the political conflicts of the past. Speaking to B92, new Education Minister and senior SPS official Zarko Obradovic said that his party was ready to clear up the past. “We’re ready to discuss openly all events from 2000, before 2000, and after 2000—that means everything, from A to Z. That includes Srebrenica, the events in Croatia, the events in the Republic of Srpska, post-October 5 Serbia, unsolved murders, and what are termed as political murders. Let’s clear all that up, so that we can draw a line under it and try and bring those responsible to justice, and look to the future,” said Obradovic. The opposition though is sceptical about the reconciliation. Serb Radical Party (SRS) Secretary-General Aleksandar Vucic, whose party was once in power with the SPS, said that he could not fathom what relevance that document had for Serbian citizens. “These are marketing stunts that serve no purpose, and are to pull the wool over people’s eyes to have something to justify unnatural coalitions, and nothing else,“ said Vucic.
