The two officials met in Sofia Friday when they agreed that KFOR would play the central role in this. "NATO plays central role in Kosovo stability" Speaking about Serbia, Scheffer said that Belgrade had received from the NATO Summit in Bucharest in early April "very clear positive signals which should show NATO's interest in the processes in the country", according to Tanjug news agency. Scheffer and Stanishev discussed NATO missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, NATO's enlargement, Western Balkans, Ukraine and Georgia, singling out the Afghanistan mission as NATO's top priority. Meantime in Kosovo, Fresh KFOR troops from Spain, Slovenia and the United Kingdom will be deployed in northern Kosovo over the next few days, replacing the existing force there, it was announced yesterday. The Austrian soliders, stationed in Camp Notting near Leposavic, will be replaced by the Spanish troops, while the Slovenians will be stationed in the region of Kosovska Mitrovica. The British troops will replace the Germans. The rotation of the KFOR troops in the north will enable the international military in this part of Kosovo to be constantly fully committed to their task in the preservation of a safe and secure environment, the statement said. KFOR commander General Xavier Bout de Marnhac said in Strpce several days ago that the international forces be deployed in Kosovo as long as UN Security Council Resolution 1244 remains in force. Currently, there are some 17,000 NATO-led KFOR troops in Kosovo.
