Ljajić and his deputies Nenad Popović and Dušan Spasojević met with security forces commanders to discuss the recent developments as they visited Bujanovac and Preševo.

“The August 4 incident and the two murders that took place in Bujanovac the day before yesterday, have no political background, however due to the region’s volatility we need to take preventive measures,” Ljajić told reporters as he toured the scene of the clash on the Bujanovac-Končulj road.

One such measure, according to Ljajić, will be increased cooperation between Serbian police (MUP) and the NATO Mission in Kosovo (KFOR) and UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) police, operating on the other side of the administrative boundary with Kosovo.

The aim of this will be to discover the weapons smuggling routes that gangs in Bujanovac and Preševo use to arm themselves.

Ljajić said police and Gendarmerie will increase vigilance, adding that their numbers in the region will remain the same.
