Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria launch military exercise

A statement issued by the Defense Ministry says the presidents of the three countries will attend the central event of the exercise in the area of the Srbovo village, scheduled for June 27.

The drill, set to last through June 29, aims at conducting coherent and complex action which will enable achieving a level of interoperability between the structures participating in joint crisis management, as well as to strengthen regional security.

The statement also said that a 550-strong Serbian force named Timok, consisting of the Serbian Army units, police and representatives of other civil defense systems will be taking part, along with 360 Bulgarian and 700 Romanian troops, police, and other state bodies in charge of security.

Timok headquarters Chief Colonel Vojin Kondić said that the exercise was of immense importance for the development of cooperation between the three countries, particularly with respect to establishing efficient mechanisms for joint reaction to contemporary security challenges.
