He told Koštunica that his views on Kosovo differed from those of his Western colleagues, but added that in the wake of the G8 summit recently held in Germany he was "under the impression that Russia’s Western partners now had better understanding of Moscow’s stance."

Koštunica thanked Putin for the invitation to take part in the internatinal economic forum in St. Petersburg, stressing that the "Kosovo-Metohija issue was not only a Serbian or Serbo-Russian issue, but also a global one,“ the government reported on its web site.

“Serbia has definitely rejected UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan which would, contrary to the UN Charter and UN 1244 resolution, take away 15 percent of Serbia’s territory,” he underscored.

Putin and Koštunica dedicated a portion of their meeting to bilateral relations, and as the Russian president said, “Serbian and Russian cooperation was at a satisfactory level.”

“However, more must yet be done in order to develop our relations in various directions. We have all that is necessary to do so and I hope we will discuss it,” Putin said.
