Russian position on Kosovo unwavering

Ahtisaari 'Lite' - utilising the basis of Ahtisaari in protecting the rights of ALL within the Serbian province of Kosovo & Metohija while EUMiK provides the guarantees for ALL and no longer continuing with the folly of attempts at dismemberment of the State of Serbia!

Now is the time for Serbia to reaffirm the commitment it has on the 'European' ethos to all of its citizens. No matter how much you hate the other people, we are all just passing through on this planet. We would all do a lot better and live happier lives if we could put away our hate and try to understand the other side. We all want the same thing-- to live freely, without fear and conflict. Each of us should start respecting the other side as human beings. Peace starts with each one of us.

A new found trust and reconcilation needs to be pursued and this is something that the EU can help facilitate - Ahtisaari 'Lite' is something that could encourage and allow reconcilation and trust to build in the coming years. More importantly it would allow the economic development that the Serbian province and it's citzens do desperatly and deservedly need.

russian investments in Serbia will certainly be as welcome as from other countries.
it would be important to stress out that there won´t be a exclusive dedication towards the eastern hemisphere, in order to make clear that it is better to invest in Serbia than to destabilize it.

Was anyone watching CNN this morning in Belgrade? President Bush said it. Independence the end goal. Period.

Bush can say it but he has been shown up that he cannot deliver - it would have happened in May if they could get this through. To now push it in the UN implies that Bush wants to show he tried his best but could not hold up the false promise that Clinton et al wrongly gave. If he wants to push it in the UN SC next week then he really wants to wash his hands of the problem!

All I can suggest is that the citizens of Serbia's province use the opportunity that this gives to show that reconcilation and a new found trust can help re-develop the Serbian province and to stop with the wasted focus and energies of trying to partition and dismember the host state.

Nothing new about the US's end goal. That was obvious the first moment Albanian labor started building Camp Bondsteel for their masters. Let's see how this all plays out. As an American, I know that the words of our politicians are cheap.

Gee I would say 58 000 + civilian deaths in Iraq is pretty bad!!

Russia & Serbia do not have "capital punishment" or as I like to call it "government sponsored murder". Defending yourself against an armed separatist movement (Kosovo,Chechnya) is not "killing your own citizens". Oh and by the way, "Russia's position on Kosovo was set a long time ago and has not changed since". That means no legal independence! Ziveli!

Yea but now you have to add into that the factor of CHINA... and US is no longer the same as it was in the 90's. Plus u have to include IRAQ, VENEZUELA and IRAN into that equation. As well as the diminishing authority of Europe to dictate anything to Russia. In the end you have US all by itself and with the new american profoundness that sacrificing 3500 lives is too much. I believe we will see a diminishing american authority on global scale in the years to come. I think East is a fairly safe ally thank you very much.

As for the topic; Kosovo without Russian blessing means NO independence. No matter what america does.

Don't be naive guys. Relations between Russia and Serbia are not better then between former and Ukraine. It is the Russian way or highway!
The current Serbian ruling political elite is the pain it the Russian foreign political pride. All "democratic" revolutions started in Serbia with the Milosevic kick-out. If the pro-Russian radicals do not get the Presidency after the election the Russia will abstain in UN SC. In a different scenario Russia will get another Belarussia in the center of Europe and will support it with all means possible (including military).
At the moment the results of the upcoming president election in Serbia is the key to the factor of Kosovo status process.
Russia is winning in Balkans. G.W.Bush admitted that by his statement. It can cool down the Kosovans, but the State Department knows that it will not make any harm to "democrats" in Serbia, since they have already lost!
The Putin's message to Kostunica was simple: Support pro-Russian internal politics or forget about Russian support on Kosovo issue. Indeed Russian position on Kosovo has never changed, it is pro-Russian way or highway!
