The arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Zagreb has been accompanied by tight security measures.

Security alert high in Zagreb for Putin visit

Putin arrived in Zagreb only an hour before the summit officially began.

As an increased security measure, there was no parking allowed in the center of Zagreb where cars carrying guest were passing buy and traffic was completely stopped while the guest officials were passing through.

There are hundreds of police officers around the West Inn hotel and there is a greater police presence all the way from downtown Zagreb to the airport.

According to the Croatian media, about 70 Russian officials responsible for Putin’s security arrived to Zagreb before the president, including those responsible for his catering.

The Russian officials have booked more than half of the rooms at the Sheraton, where Putin is believed to be staying.

Croatian security personal also checked all manholes and streets for possible explosive days before Putin’s arrival.

The Russian president will be leaving Zagreb today.
