Lajčak appointed new representative to Bosnia

EU foreign ministers decided that Lajčak’s tenure would also include “offering advice and favors of EU’s good will in the political process in Bosnia.”

His mandate will focus on “fostering and harmonizing of Bosnian policy, and EU’s efforts in curbing organized crime.”

In that sense, Lajčak will be charged with “preparation and implementation of police restructuring and establishment of stronger and more efficient connections between judiciary, Bosnian police, and EU police mission.”

Lajčak’s goal will be to advocate and achieve the joining of forces in efforts to decide on priorities for granting funds set aside for Bosnia within EU’s assistance programs.

The European Union has also trusted Lajčak with exerting influence to bring about respect for human rights and freedoms in Bosnia.

He will be expected to work with Bosnian authorities towards achieving full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.

The new EU Representative to Bosnia would also assume the role of political advisor to Bosnia with respect to its pending constitutional reforms.
