Serbia on verge of biggest investment?

A delegation from India has already visited several locations in Serbia, narrowing down the number of adequate locations to two – Inđija (a rapidly developing economic zone) and nearby Pećinci, both located half-way between Serbia’s two prime cities, Belgrade and Novi Sad.

Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mlađan Dinkić said this could become “the largest investment in Serbia to date”

Ješić said his town was “more than prepared to accommodate such a project”.

“The project is complex and requires an adequate setting, a high organizational level and engagement at all levels, including the district, regional and state administrations.”

“With these kinds of projects investors are handed many services free of charge. Even laws are amended to optimize the operational environment, such as tax reductions for a limited time period,” Ješić said.

India is one of the fastest growing global economies and is a leading producer of technological parks.

These accommodate the most propulsive global companies, such as IBM, Lenovo, etc.

The second most populous country in the world has reached a GDP of USD 886bn, ranking it 13th in the world in absolute terms, but viewed through the lens of purchasing power, the GDP is an astounding USD 3,729bn, or the fourth leading global economy.

Ješić said the project would change the image of the Serbian economy to its foundations.

These are the most sophisticated information technologies, which would not only provide significant drive for the economy, but also create new professional profiles in the country.

Currently the largest problem pertains to real estate guarantees, since large areas of building land needed are for the project.

The municipality of Inđija has made most progress in conceptualizing industrial zones and providing a complete communal infrastructure, which makes it the most serious candidate for accommodating the project.
