Suspect found hiding after murder of mother of 3

Begrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti said the police were looking for I.R., who is suspected of committing the murder, and that he was found later on Monday, hiding in the attic of a nearby building.

I.R. was previously in a relationship with the victim, and was the father of her youngest child.

The daily Blic writes that I.R. was to return to prison on charges of domestic violence, i.e., for assaulting J.G. He had been released in February after being found guilty and sent to jail the first time on similar charges, but then attacked and battered the woman again.

The daily Politika reported in late April that 18 women had been murdered in gender-based domestic violence incidents since the start of this year - the highest number in the last decade.

Last year, a law was passed in Serbia aiming to prevent domestic violence from occurring by removing the attackers from the surroundings of their victims.
