1990s-era customs chief acquitted in corruption case

Special Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljević told B92 that his office planned to appeal against the ruling.

Kertes was put on trial and sent to six and a half years in prison for "without legal grounds giving to certain companies" a part of the Customs money, and also for taking about 38 million German marks to Cyprus, without the Central Bank's approval.

This criminal activity was taking place from mid-1994 until October 5, 2000, the court found.

The final verdict was overturned last year by the Supreme Court of Cassation, which also ordered the Court of Appeals to reconsider the lodged appeals.

The Court of Appeals then decided to send the case to retrial.
