VRANJE Predrag Maric says that he does not agree with appraisals that as many as 90 percent of wildfires in Serbia this summer were the result of arson. However, the MUP Emergency Sector chief noted that "there is no exact data at this time". MUP official says "not all" wildfires were arson "I think that figure is too high, although there have been many cases of carelessness and negligence," he told a news conference in the southern town of Vranje, where this police sector on Saturday marked its day. According to Maric, "it is obvious that some fires were started on purpose", and that in those cases the police were acting in line with the law: "In each of those cases the suspects are being investigated, and if our suspicions prove to be true, they will be sanctioned." He specified that the Criminal Investigations Police Administration was in charge. "I would not agree with appraisals coming from some that 90 percent of fires had been started on purpose, because there is no exact data at this time," Maric told journalists, when asked to comment on media reports.
