Ex-KLA commander renounces immunity

Fatmir Limaj, who was arrested under suspicion of committing war crimes in the village of Klecka and then released, has renounced his parliamentary immunity. The Kosovo assembly MP and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) deputy leader has decided to renounce his immunity in order to allow EULEX to continue the investigation against him. Ex-KLA commander renounces immunity Limaj told a press conference that he believed in “purity of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fight and that he is prepared to face justice whenever necessary”. However, the Kosovo assembly will need to decide about Limaj’s immunity once the prosecution sends its request. The ex-KLA commander had a meeting with EULEX officials on Wednesday night but he said that neither he nor his attorneys had received confirmation that an indictment against him had been raised. Limaj has stated that he firmly believes that he will be acquitted in this case as well as in the corruption case. EULEX has confirmed that there is an arrest warrant for the former KLA commander. They also explained that the warrant referred to the Klecka case and serious war crimes allegations. The Hague Tribunal has exonerated Limaj of war crimes in the village of Lapusnik. Ex-KLA commander renounces immunity

Limaj told a press conference that he believed in “purity of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fight and that he is prepared to face justice whenever necessary”.

However, the Kosovo assembly will need to decide about Limaj’s immunity once the prosecution sends its request.

The ex-KLA commander had a meeting with EULEX officials on Wednesday night but he said that neither he nor his attorneys had received confirmation that an indictment against him had been raised. Limaj has stated that he firmly believes that he will be acquitted in this case as well as in the corruption case.

EULEX has confirmed that there is an arrest warrant for the former KLA commander.
