Attacks on a journalist and the media are attacks on the freedom of information, says Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic. Therefore, it is the priority of police to identify and locate the attackers on Teofil Pancic, a columnist of the Belgrade-based weekly Vreme, he said on Sunday. Police work to identify attackers Veljovic said that police guarantee security to each journalist, adding that an assault on a journalist is an assault on an official, since journalists, as well as members of the police, have high profile. Veljovic added that it is important to determine the motive of the assault. “I expect that this case will soon be solved,” he said. Pancic was assaulted on a bus stop on Sunday evening when two unidentified persons brutally beat him with a metal bar.
