“Attack on French nationals was planned”

Daily Blic writes that the brutal attack on French football fans on Thursday was organized, and that police have brought in numerous people for questioning. According to the daily’s sources, the attack was carefully planned. “Attack on French nationals was planned” Blic stated that a small group of French nationals came to Belgrade about a week ago and had been sitting on the patio outside of the Irish pub on a daily basis. Even though they were not wearing shirts or other paraphernalia of the football team they root for, it seems that Serbian hooligans knew of where they were gathering and waited for the right moment to attack them. One eyewitness from the attack said that the French nationals came to the pub almost every day and that they were very friendly and courteous. “They did not provoke anyone, nor did they sing football related songs or chants. Some of them were even wearing shirts and scarves of the Serbian national team,” the eyewitness said. He said that the French fans were sitting and talking when all of a sudden, a group of hooligans appeared carrying bats. “There was no discussion or verbal conflicts, torches were lit immediately and they were attacked. Chaos ensued. The French fans did not know what was happening. They separated one of the men from the group and took him near the stairs by the parking garage and began to beat him like an animal,” he said. Another witness said that the fight ended quickly and that some of the attackers were wearing dark sweatshirts with “Serbia” written on them.
