Disgusting.
Despicable.
Deplorable.

I'm not even bothering to read the comments here because I know this is have probably devolved into a pissing match between cyber-trolls.

Everyone should feel the exact same way over this crime regardless of ethnicity or political leaning.

"I had a comparable experience with some Serbian people, who asked me in a hostile way, if I am spying for the US..."

That's due to the fact that very many foreigners in Serbia and the Balkans were and are spies. They operated undercover as journalists, humanitarian workers, "neutral" observers, professors, etc.

You had the Australian CARE worker who was caught by Serbs and who claimed he wasn't a spy and the press hounded Serbia on it.

But later after he was released and back in Australia, he did admit he was a spy for NATO and was sending NATO reports on how the bombing was affecting the general population from his ground perception.

There were also spies who helped choose bombing sites in the months before NATO bombed.

There are all kinds of spies too - not just military spies, but economic spies and such.

Arkan is dead, but not his ideals, which are supported not only by Serbian hooligans. Read websites like 'Stormfront Serbia', and you know what I mean. And 'highduke' maybe you are right with your statement: "& BAD french politics & attitude toward Serbia made this violence possible". I had a comparable experience with some Serbian people, who asked me in a hostile way, if I am spying for the US, France or the 'Stasi', the former Eastern!! German intelligence service. Imagine, my wife speaks Russian. All this fascistoid nationalism is very suspect and loves violence.

"CRIME: While Belgrade is not afflicted with high levels of street crime, pick-pocketing and purse snatchings can occur. The same precautions one would take in any large city in the United States should serve well in Belgrade. Crimes tend to be based on opportunity rather than targeting. Unsecured vehicles, items left in plain sight within vehicles, open gates, and open garage doors are inviting targets. Difficult economic conditions have led to the growth of an organized criminal class. Violent crime is most commonly associated with organized crime activities. While confrontational and gratuitously violent crimes rarely target tourists, Mafia-style reprisals have sometimes occurred, including in hotels, restaurants, shops and on the street, and the threat of passersby being affected is possible. . Car thefts or break-ins can occur at all times of day or night in all sections of Belgrade and other parts of the country if vehicles do not have additional security devices like fuel line interrupter switches or steering wheel locking devices. As in other parts of the world, travelers should be especially on guard while walking in city centers. "

MikeC, well in Prishtina people don't hit foreigners to death. People who are poor may steal to feed their family but at least they don't hit people cowardly. I am a foreigner in Kosovo and I have never been in danger here what so ever. With my wife I speak swedish all the time because I am still learning the albanian language. In fact I meet people in Prishtina today speaking serbian and driving cars with serbian numberplates. It is all a lie that you cannot speak serbian in downtown Prishtina because serbs are there making business every day. And they speak serbian to the albanian they make deals with because serbs have never learned to speak albanian. Strange when the majority of people in Kosovo speak albanian.

The only ''danger'' in Kosovo I would say is being fooled by the taxiguy for 20 cent or pay some extra at the localshop. It was the first thing my parents in law warned me for when I moved here. People are poor here but still more happy than people somewhere else.

I like Kosovo and it would be better if Serbia leaved Kosovo alone and mind their own buisness.

In some posts written by you, some days back, you said something like Serbia or better sayung Serbs are the most tolerant society. So, what happened? who stole your 'tolerance'? Or, your calim was and is something more like "wanna be"?!

Rogers comment is so accurate. These are the same thugs, led by people like Arkan, who committed heinous crimes against innocent civilians in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo.

Unfortuantely this event doesn't surpise me and is the sort of thing I've come to expect from Serbia. (as well as the cancellation of the Belgrade Pride Parade).

Where are MikeC and Peggy on this thread, they usually have some BS pro-serb propaganda to explain away these incidents.

Good comment, Amer - thanks. This is why the "White Schengen" is so important.

Otherwise it seems that the criminals are already where they should be and hopefully they will get some longer term, no mercy for that. Besides, they were friends of the country.

Because

- the event was planned
- because of the brutality
- because the suffering is Serbia's friend
- because of political weight

I would not be shy to give 10-15 years.

It's so sad to read again k-a trolls using this sad story as a political tool to blame all serbia, you deserve as little credit as these hooligans!

As to this hooligans, only one place for them, in the jail for a few years.
These kind of animals can't walk free on the street in which ever country they are, from which ever nationality they are! No merci

Probably the only hopeful sign here is that as soon as most Serbian commenters on this story (at B92 and other sites) realized that it wasn't just the usual shoving match but a planned attack, they immediately started condemning the thugs. These Frenchmen had gone out of their way to show solidarity with Serbs - not only wearing their opponents' uniforms but even making the 3-fingered sign - so they made an especially bad target. I hope you guys get on the white Schengen list soon so more people can travel and see that the entire world isn't against Serbia.

A planned attack. Terrible, but also typical. Most countries have a hooligan element, but in Serbia these louts were co-opted by the government. During the wars of aggression in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, Serbian football hooligans led by Arkan killed, raped or displaced a great many innocent people. All this with the connivance, support and sanction of the Serbian government of the time. A unique case explaining why so many of Serbia's neighbours have a problem with this virulent strain of aggressive nationalism.

I do hope they catch the culprits and sentence the guy/s that used the bar to life in prison.
However, I wonder if it is normal for football fans of another country to come a week early. And why were they always sitting outside the bar. If they were completely innocent, it makes the story sadder. However, what if they were marking territory or trying to make their presence known. There could have been threats made between the groups that is not being mentioned.
Did the French fans not go anywhere else but sit outside that bar all day? Is that typical?

As a football hooligan, let me say that these beasts do not represent all of us hooligans, if they are hooligans. Serbia is still a nationalist, right-wing country, as demonstrated here & the canceled gay parade & BAD french politics & attitude toward Serbia made this violence possible because I dont think it could have happened to Russian fans & it doesnt happen to the tens of thousands of Chinese in Serbia either.
