Acting Public Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanovic has suspended his deputy in Novi Pazar, Senad Palamar. The decision comes after suspicions that Palamar abused his position with regards to human trafficking, announced the Prosecution. Deputy public prosecutor suspended At the request of the Sombor District Court, Parliament has approved the decision to remand Palamar into custody, who, it has been alleged, has had direct knowledge of human trafficking, having used the sexual services of some of the female victims. To Beta’s knowledge, the former deputy prosecutor has been involved in organized prostitution at the Jet Set nightclub for several years, a matter that B92 has investigated on several occasions. According to a statement, Palamar did not even take steps to solve crimes or apprehend the criminals involved, thus allowing the culprits to go free and leaving the victims to suffer. The Sombor Public Prosecution has submitted a request to conduct an investigation on suspicion that he deliberately failed to inform the district prosecutor in Novi Pazar of crimes and suspects involved in human trafficking. Palamar is accused of knowing of the abuse suffered by people like Marija K. (25) from Sombor between December 2005 and July 12, 2007, when the Novi Pazar police arrested nine people suspected of involvement in human trafficking. Besides Marija K., Leposava P. from Loznica and Milica B. from Belgrade – who has since been transferred to a shelter for the victims of human trafficking in Belgrade - were also found at the Jet Set nightclub. A few months before the police operation, B92 reported on the club’s irregular dealings, claiming that victims of human trafficking had been forced into prostitution there. According to B92, another girl from Sombor, Sanja B., died while working at the club. However, the Novi Pazar Police Department claimed at the time that they had no knowledge of prostitution at the club and announced that they would “view any further criticism of the police, and questions linked to determining responsibility outwith standard procedures, as tendentious and malicious.” Slobodan Radovanovic (FoNet)
