Men outnumber women in workforce

Women account for 42 percent of employees in Serbia, which indicates that the number of men in the workforce is higher by 16 percent compared to women.

Men outnumber women in workforce

The majority of women in employment - 29.4 percent - are between 45 and 54 of age. Most employed men are aged 35 to 44, and account for 25.5 percent of all men in work.

The study has also shown that the majority of employed women are married - 71 percent, while the percentage stands at 66 percent for men. The percentage of employed women with higher education is higher compared to men in the same group, totaling 71 percent for women and 65 percent for men.

At the same time, men in the age group 15-64 are twice as active in self-employment as women - 29 compared to 14 percent.

The unemployment rate for women stands at 24 percent and for men at 21 percent. It is the highest in women between 15 and 24 years of age, and about 12 percent points higher than in men - specifically, 57 compared to 45 percent.

The Serbian farming population has aged drastically, and most farm holders are now above the age of 65. Around 47 percent of them are women, and 32 percent are men.
