20.3 percent of Serbian population unemployed
The unemployment rate in Serbia currently stands at 20.3 percent, down 0.5 percent on early 2014, and down 3.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Job seekers spend nearly four years on average looking for work, and more than 50 percent of the unemployed are persons under the age of 30 (26.2 percent) and older than 50 (26 percent).The unemployment rate in April last year reached 24.1 percent, and dropped to 20.3 percent in August this year, to a total of 757,243 unemployed registered at NZS.
The number of persons registered on the NSZ books has been reducing gradually over the past six months, and now totals 36,382 or 4.8 percent less than in February 2014, when it hit the maximum of 793,625.
The number of new people on the NSZ unemployment register in 2014 is down by 9.5 percent compared to the same period (January-August) last year.
The share of young people in the total number of jobless is 3.7 percent lower than in the same period in 2013, while the number of unemployed over the age of 50 increased by 2.9 percent.
Most unemployed on the NZS register have completed secondary education (54.4 percent), followed by job seekers with first and second degree qualifications (31.85 percent), while 8.3 percent are highly qualified.
The long-term unemployed, who have been looking for work for more than 12 months, account for 68.6 percent of the total number, and 52.6 percent of them are women.
A total of 100,578 people, or 16,763 every month, found work in the first half of 2014.
Substantial increase was noted in the number of people employed for an indefinite time period, but the dominant form of employment still includes contracts for a definite period of time, as well as temporary and occasional jobs, the NSZ data indicate.
The changes indicate some growth in employment in the summer but it is still too early to make any conclusions about future employment trends, NSZ release states.
