Most employees of U.S. Steel Serbia will have one day of paid leave per week, with a wage for the day amounting to 60 percent of their full wage. “The current economic crisis has significantly affected the market of steel and the orders of our customers,” Public Affairs Director at U. S. Steel Serbia Nemanja Brkovic told Tanjug. U.S. Steel Serbia cuts working week He added that "in order to accommodate the current situation, U.S. Steel Serbia has decided that most employees will have one day of paid leave per week, with a wage for the day amounting to 60 percent of their full wage." The design capacity of the steel works is 2.2 million metric tons of pig iron per year. The plant, however, has never reached the desired production level. In addition to the plant in the city of Smederevo, central Serbia, the company has three other units - one in the city of Sabac, western Serbia, another in the town of Kucevo in the east of the country and the third, called Port, located on the banks of the Danube in Smederevo.
