Serbian Trade and Agriculture Minister Dusan Petrovic has stated that there are and there will not be any shortages on the market. He added that he expected that trade margins would drop which would contribute to the decrease in prices. There will be no market shortages, minister says "After great market turbulence in the first half of 2011, the situation has finally changed. We managed to stabilize the market. There are and there will not be any shortages. I am convinced that in 2012 we will not be under everyday stress from increase in prices of staple food," the minister told Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti. He is convinced that the gross domestic product could significantly increase in the next year owing to agriculture, adding that there was no reason why Serbia should not earn more from agriculture than Croatia, for example, earned from tourism. Petrovic stated that the Agriculture Ministry proposed to the Serbian government to allocate RSD 3.25bn for a complete revitalization of the existing irrigation network. "This way we would have the possibility of permanent irrigation of 130,000 hectares of agricultural land," he pointed out. Dusan Petrovic (FoNet, file)
