EC response on Serbian excises

The Finance Ministry received on Monday a response from the European Commission concerning Serbia's law on excises. It states that amendments made to the Law on Excise on Petroleum Derivatives violated the Interim Trade Agreement between the European Union and Serbia, that ministry confirmed to Beta news agency. EC response on Serbian excises The ministry underlined that Serbia would accept the European Commission's recommendations but could not say how excise on petroleum derivatives would be adjusted. At the end of last year the Serbian Parliament adopted a Socialist Party of Serbia amendment to the Law on Excise under which excise on imported fuel was raised higher than the excise on fuel produced by the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS). The amendments went into effect on Jan. 1, 2011.
