Govt. wishes to stabilize food prices Speaking at a roundtable entitled Serbia in the Economically Difficult 2011, on Path to the EU, which was organized by Tanjug, Bajec said that the participants of the meeting, held between Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Minister of Agriculture Sasa Dragin, Trade Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic and National Bank of Serbia Governor Dejan Soskic, concluded that the growth of food prices has been one of the main generators of the 2010 inflation, which will be higher than expected and will affect the inflation at the beginning of 2011. The meeting was also used to discuss the role of the strategic reserves in this situation and it was decided that commodities for the reserves should be bought when their price is low and sold when the price goes up, Bajec stated. Serbia's EU integration, lower tariff barriers and better competition will lead to more stable prices, and not just when it comes to food, according to Bajec's expectations. The participants of the meeting decided that the ministries of agriculture and trade should come up with a list of measures that would stabilize food prices, Bajec noted.
