Pensions will keep up with the growth of salaries in the public sector for as long as the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) remains in the government. This is according PUPS vice president Milan Krkobavic has stated. No pension cuts, says party official He stressed that a ten-percent increase in salaries will be followed by a proportionate growth in pensions, and pointed out that the adjustment of the two is not in PUPS' jurisdiction, adding that the course of developments from 2012 on is a big question that needs to be answered. After new elections in 2012, Serbia will discuss a new arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and if PUPS remains in the government, the arrangement will be the same. However, if the party does not remain a part of the government, the current pensioners and those who are yet to retire, as well as the unions and everyone else, should start worrying about their future. They should think twice before they place their votes, Krkobavic warned in a statement for the Belgrade-based daily Danas. Instead of the previously earned 100,000, PUPS will win 500,000 votes and we will make a new agreement with the new ruling majority, so that pensions could continue following the changes in salaries, the official assessed.
