Energy Minister Petar Skundric said on Wednesday that Comico Oil will be able to build a refinery in Smederevo when it obtains the necessary permits. He stressed that the interstate agreement between Russia and Serbia was not an obstacle to realization of the investment. Energy deal with Russia "no obstacle to refinery" “The interstate agreement between Russia and Serbia is not an obstacle to realization of this investment,” the minister said, recalling that the bilateral agreement envisages keeping the same operating conditions in the Serbian market during the period of reconstruction of the Gazprom-owned Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) refineries. The Ministry of Energy will give the company a permission to build a refinery in the city of Smederevo, 46 kilometers east of Belgrad, as soon as it submits all necessary documents to the ministry, Skundric said. He said that the Dutch-American consortium Comico Oil has asked the ministry to be granted energy permits for building an oil refinery in Smederevo, after which the ministry's competent services requested additional documents, which have not been received. According to Skundric, Comico Oil will be in position to begin the construction of its refinery in Serbia immediately after receiving all the necessary approvals. If, for example, Comico Oil launched the refinery building project the next day, the shortest time for the works to begin would be three years, he added.
