Serbia's economy produced a negative financial result of RSD 95.7bn in 2009, or almost EUR 1bn according to the exchange rate at the time. This is according to a statement this Tuesday in Belgrade from the Republic Institute for Development. Economy's losses close to EUR 1bn The incurred loss of the Serbian companies reached RSD 373.9bn, that is around EUR 4bn, which is 34.4 percent more than the generated profit. At the end of 2009, a total of 89,658 companies did business in Serbia, out of which 88,697 small and mid-sized companies and 961 large ones. They employed a total of 1,058,039 people, 608,353 of whom worked in small and mid-sized companies and 450,186 in large companies. After two years of positive tendencies and increase of employment, the number of employed persons in Serbia was reduced by 59,845, or 5.4 percent, and the number of companies by 68 (0.1 percent), the Institute's statement reads.
