Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic says the IMF will send a mission in February 2010 to analyze the situation in the Serbian tax system. "I hope that the visit will give us a clear picture of the type of tax system that Serbia needs. Of course, all that would be done to stimulate economic growth and employment," Dragutinovic told the Blic daily. IMF to analyze Serbia's tax system Dragutinovic remarked that the IMF mission would be informed about a proposed tax system reform, stating that the system current was unfair and protected the richest citizens. "In our desire to start changing it, we prepared some amendments to the property and tax law, and I believe I will get the whole government's support on this... The property tax is deeply unfair and everyone agrees on that," Dragutinovic noted. She said that the amendments should be submitted for consideration by the government by the end of January. The tax reform should lighten the load on the economy by lowering the profit and income taxes. The reform should reduce the tax burden regarding income, while increasing expenditure taxation. The load would be transferred from the field where most tax evasion happens (income) to that where committing tax evasion is the hardest, which would suppress the grey market," Dragutinovic stated.
