Labor and Social Policies Minister Rasim Ljajic will meet with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund on Monday. Officials of the IMF will arrive in Belgrade on Monday to begin talks regarding the second revision of the institution’s stand-by agreement with Serbia. IMF mission in Belgrade on Monday Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said that in the talks this coming week with IMF officials, there will be no proposal for increasing VATs or new taxes on the wages of Serbian citizens, but rather that the proposal will include a complete reform of the state administration and the entire public sector. “A preliminary analysis is being done that should show us in what direction to go. It is not only a question of how much the number of workers should be decreased by, but making sure that it goes along with the needed reforms that would lead to a more effective public sector,” Cvetkovic said. Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic said that the IMF and Serbian government “will reach a quick agreement on the size of the deficit and the way in which it will be financed,” adding that she still supports a progressive taxation of wages. Dragutinovic explained that the negotiations with the IMF will have “short-term and long-term components.” (Beta)
