Serbia will receive budgetary assistance of EUR 100mn from the European Commission (EC), says Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic. Djelic explained that he had received the news this morning from EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn. The conditions for this assistance will be known in July, Djelic added. Serbia to receive EUR 100mn from EC “The first installment will arrive in the third quarter of this year, and the second installment is expected to arrive in the first half of 2010,” the minister told reporters at a meeting of the International Association of Agricultural Banks’ Central Committee at the Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade. He added that the conditions were likely to include implementation of the IMF arrangement and the National EU Integration Program. Djelic stated the funds in question were non-returnable and were part of the EU’s EUR 1bn packet of pre-accession assistance to Serbia. Asked where the money would be diverted, the minister replied that the funds would be used to offset this year’s shortfall. He said that the funds Serbia was receiving were the best possible way for the EU to demonstrate its solidarity with Serbia in these hard times. Bozidar Djelic (FoNet, archive)
