NIS calls first modernization tender A statement from NIS said that the acquisition of equipment will enable the construction of an installation at the oil refinery in Pancevo, which would make possible the production of engine fuel to the Euro-5 standard. The tender was called for the acquisition of a hydro-cracking reactor, hydro-treating reactor and a high pressure separator, while offers can be submitted until May 5, and will be opened on May 6. The mild hydro-cracking and distillate hydro-treating (MHC/DHT) installation will begin operating in 2012, in accordance with the conditions of the EUR 400mn sales contract for a 51 percent stake in NIS sold to Gazpromneft, announced the company. A special tender commission was formed, which has the task of assessing tender offers and deciding the winners. As was announced, the company plans to include international experts in the assessment of the offers. NIS CEO Kirill Kravchenko stated that the increased depth of oil drilling and the increase in the production of derivatives with a high margin is one of the directions of the program to increase efficiency at NIS. "The complex level of technical modernization and reconstruction of the refinery will allow NIS to compete with European oil companies and secure a leading position on the energy market in Southeastern Europe," he said. Gazpromnjft, part of the Russian oil and gas giant Gazprom, officially took control of 51 percent of NIS at a shareholders' assembly on Feb. 10.
