He added that the Crisis Staff can only recommend measures. "However, all other decisions are made by the government of this country," Kon told today's Politika.He stated that the omicron strain of the virus had arrived in our country, stating that the number of COVID infections in Serbia had already increased in the last three days and that this "cannot be stopped unless serious measures are taken".
"We will have a larger increase in the number of infected people after the New Year and Christmas holidays, and especially in the second half of January. Many will not call doctors during this period because they mostly avoid doing so during the holidays," Kon said.
According to him, "in this situation, when we have triggers such as the New Year, but also the fact that the virus passes through the vaccinated population, it is not unrealistic to expect that the numbers that are now four digits will only increase by thousands."
"That is why it is not impossible to record 5.000 infected people a day. I even think that this is a real possibility and that it will be like that until the end of January," said Kon, stating that this is the beginning of the sixth wave or the peak of the fifth.
When asked about the football matches with a huge number of fans present, he said that the Crisis Staff did not allow it.
