Serbia has 36,000 landslide sites - minister

The situation is the most critical in Ljig, Bogdanje, Kosjeric, Doljevac, Krupanj and Vladicin Han, Ilic said as he toured landslide sites in the Cacak area, where a total of 250 have been registered, with nine buildings potentially in danger.

In some places in Serbia, life has been brought to a complete standstill due to the landslides - children are forced to walk as far as ten or more kilometers to reach their schools, while some villages are virtually cut off.

Works on a landslide register are underway, the minister said, noting that construction on dangerous locations must be prevented.

The Ministry of Construction has already informed us that it will not be issuing construction permits for locations endangered by landslides and for infrastructure facilities in particular, he said.
