The Serbian members of the UN mission are tasked with conducting daily patrols and activities at checkpoints around Gadjar, the village straddling the line separating Lebanon from Israel.
Visiting the VS peacekeepers were Commander of the VS Land Forces Lt.-Gen.l Aleksandar Živković and Chief of the VS Peacekeeping Operations Center Col. Milivoje Pajović.
During the three-day tour of the operations zone and places where Serbian Army infantry members are deployed, Živković got acquainted with our soldiers' current living and working conditions.
The Serbian platoon commander, Cpt. Miloš Todorović, told General Živković that the Serbian soldiers are healthy and safe and are carrying out all their tasks as part of the Spanish Army peacekeeping battalion in a professional manner, according to the VS website.
Besides in Lebanon, members of the Serbian Defense Ministry and of the Serbian Armed Forces are taking part in UN peacekeeping missions in Congo, Cyprus, Liberia and the Ivory Coast.
In the old Yugoslavia (SFRJ) thousands of soldiers were sent on UN peacekeeping missions around the world. The military would receive lots of money for each soldier but would pay them little. It was a nice little earner. I guess things have changed very little.
